Practice Description
Sergey Sokolov, the founder and managing director of Marks and Sokolov’s Moscow office, is widely viewed as an expert in legal issues involving commerce between Western companies and those of the former Soviet Union. On behalf of clients from around the world, Sergey handles a wide range of complex multinational mergers & acquisitions, litigation, real estate sales and acquisitions and international transactional work.

Prior to founding Marks & Sokolov, Sergey was in private practice advising Russian and foreign clients doing business in Russia and internationally in timber business, international trade of FMCG, real estate development. He later worked with Hedman, an international law firm, and served as legal counsel for the International Finance Corporation (a member of the World Bank).

Sergey received his J.D. summa cum laude from the Law School of St. Petersburg State University in 1993 and graduated from the School of Economics of the same university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business (1993). He was admitted to the bar in Russia in 1993.
