Injured Fisherman Successful in Claim Against Boat Operator
What the Case Involved:
Marks & Sokolov successfully represented Steven Powell, a commercial fisherman in a suit against the vessel and the vessel owner for lost wages, pain and suffering and more --resulting from a severe infection of his arm that he suffered while working in waters off the coast of New Jersey. While onboard the fishing vessel, Mr. Powell was left untreated and denied medical care by the captain which caused his condition to become critical. After the fishing vessel dropped Mr. Powell at the port, he was airlifted to a regional trauma center in Camden, New Jersey. Mr. Powell remained hospitalized for two weeks and underwent four surgeries. Mr. Powell recovered from his injuries.

Result:
The case of Powell v. Odyssey Scallop Co., filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey was settled for $277,675.96 which included lost wages, maintenance, pain and suffering.
